Matthew Rhys to Star in Apple TV+ Series ‘Widow’s Bay’

Actor Matthew Rhys will be taking up a major part in the forthcoming “Widow’s Bay” series, according to what our sources have uncovered.

In September 2024, the series was commissioned for ten episodes by Apple. According to the official summary, the story revolves around an eerily haunted New England isle and its apprehensive inhabitants, with the mayor (played by Rhys) being the skeptic who disregards their forebodings.

Rhys has just secured some new roles for streaming TV shows. Lately, he completed filming for the Netflix miniseries “The Beast in Me” alongside Claire Danes. In addition, it was announced in November that Rhys will act alongside John Krasinski in the Amazon Prime Video series, “Silent River,” a serial killer drama. Furthermore, he recently finished shooting for the BritBox and BBC1 adaptation of Agatha Christie’s “Towards Zero.

Rhys is mainly recognized for his lead part in the FX Cold War spy series “The Americans,” which earned him an Emmy Award in 2018. Moreover, he played significant roles in HBO’s “Perry Mason” series across two seasons. Apart from that, he has been featured in TV shows like “Brothers & Sisters” on ABC and movies such as “The Post,” “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,” Andy Serkis’ “Jungle Book,” and Jason Reitman’s film “Saturday Night.” In addition to these roles, he portrayed George Carlin in a movie.

Katie Dippold is responsible for developing “Widow’s Bay,” where she will not only serve as the showrunner but also an executive producer. Rhys, in addition to starring, will hold the title of executive producer as well. Hiro Murai will direct the pilot and will be an executive producer for the series along with Claudia Shin and Carver Karaszewski. Joanne Toll is set to co-executive produce. Katie Dippold has made “Widow’s Bay,” where she will act as both the main boss (showrunner) and a high-ranking decision-maker (executive producer). Rhys will not only play a part but also be an executive producer. Hiro Murai is in charge of directing the first episode and will also be an executive producer, along with Claudia Shin and Carver Karaszewski.
